Analysis of muscle fibre thickness in relation to the gender and live weight of pigs during fattening

  • Original language description

Pork is comprised of cross-striped muscle tissue whose functional and morphological construction unit is a muscle fiber. The goal of the work was to document the effect of the gender and live weight of pigs on muscle fiber thickness. Eight hybrid pigs (4male pigs/female pigs with a live weight of 25 kg and 105 kg) of the VEPIG firm product were subject to two completed VJH experiments. Muscle fiber thickness was measured by means of section preparations of the following m. semimembranosus, adjuctor, serratus ventralis, cleidocephalicus and MLLT. Regardless of the gender, the average detected thickness of MLLT muscle fiber was 34.52#m (25 kg) and 54.48#m (105 kg). The biggest fiber diameter (P? 0,05) was detected in the group of female pigs (34.48#m; 34.48#m) with a live weight of 25 kg compared to male pigs (36.62#m; 34.48#m). During the second series of experiments the biggest muscle fiber thickness was demonstrated by the monitored male pigs (66.54#m; 58.4#m) compared to female pigs
