Supression of weed beet populations on arable land
Original language description
The possibility and efficacy of control measures used against weed beet were analysed. There were 119 seed lots tested under field conditions. 95 of them were without any contamination, 23 had permissible contamination, i.e., the weed beet content bellow0,05 %, and 1 seed lot overreached this limit. The chemical control via two glyphosate treatments per vegetation period provided the following results: only 34% of plants died or were sterilized, 38% were partially injured but regenerated, 28% of the plants were not affected at all. Only the complex of preventive and direct-control methods is needed to eliminate potential gene-flow between weed beet and sugar beet through thecrossing, because none of the above individual methods is effective enough.
