Trends of perennial weeds biomass production on set-aside land

  • Original language description

In the years 1997 ? 2000 trends of biomass production of perennial weeds Cirsium arvense, Elytrigia repens and Convolvulus arvensis on set-aside arable land sown with four grass and four legume species (in 1996) were researched. Swards were once or threetimes per year cut with biomass removal or once or two times per year mulched. The highest dry mass production of Cirsium arvense in grass swards was found in the fourth vegetation year 1999 (0.74 t ha-1) and in legume swards in 1998 (0.37 t ha-1). Thebiomass production of Elytrigia repens increased from 1999 (0.008 t ha-1) to 2000 (0.03 t ha-1). The highest aboveground biomass of Elytrigia repens in legume stands was found in 1999 (2.2 t ha-1). Decrease of Convolvulus arvensis biomass production wasfound in the fourth vegetation year.
