The Role of Nitric Oxide Synthase in Porcine Oocytes Meiotic Maturation

  • Original language description

Nitric oxide Synthase (NOS) has been considered as a highly regulated enzyme that can produce Nitric oxide, which is known as important signalling molecule. The aim of our study was to assess whether NOS is involved in porcine oocytes meiotic maturation. In porcine oocytes were detected two NOS isoforms (from three known) NOS II and NOS III at all three studied stages (germinal vesicle, first and second meiotic metaphase). During the culture the amount of NO significantly increased with the stage of meiotic maturation. The addition of NOS inhibitor (L-NAME) significantly decreased the rate of oocytes at the second meiotic metaphase stage. Inactive NOS inhibitor conformer D-NAME did not affect the oocytes maturation. Our results indicate that NOS is involved in process of porcine oocyte meiotic maturation by producing NO.
