Effect of rams´ breeds and ages on quantitative and qualitative traits of their sperm

  • Original language description

The objective of this study was to determine the effect of herd, breed, the age of rams, their semen density, and the type of diluter used on the volume and level of activity of semen and the number of insemination doses produced. The total level of reproductive capabilities of 59 rams was evaluated. A statistically significant effect of the herd, breed, rams´ ages, density of their semen, and type of diluter used on the qualitative and quantitative traits of rams´ sperm was determined. A significant difference (P < 0.05) between breeds (Bohemia Forest and Wallachia sheep) was determined only in the case of insemination doses produced, although Wallachia rams achieved better results in other characteristics. The lowest decrease in sperm activity afterdilution was detected in the group of the youngest rams (P < 0.05). However, the oldest rams had the highest volume of sperm, sperm activity before and after diluting, as well as the number of insemination doses produced, but non-signific
