Qualitative traits of rams´ semen in the Czech autochthonous breeds Sumava and Wallachia sheep
Original language description
The semen quality of 50 Sumava (n=33) and Wallachia rams (n=17) in 8 herds were evaluated during the mating seasons from 2005 to 2008. Sperm volume, motility, and density were evaluated after collection, and the motility was estimated repeatedly after dilution and during a survival test (30, 60, and 90 minutes, 39+1o C). The results were evaluated by the SAS GLM procedure. Wallachia rams achieved better results of sperm quality after collection and dilution; however, Sumava rams had higher sperm motility during the entire survival test (P < 0.05). The highest results of sperm motility before and after dilution were detected in semen with a high or very high level of density (P < 0.05). The survival of the sperm during the test significantly differed inrelation to density before diluting (P < 0.05). Relationships among sperm motility before and after diluting and during the entire survival test were confirmed by Pearson´s correlation coefficients, r=0.7637 - r=0.9191 (P < 0.001). The o
