Carbon monooxide has ability to delay aging of porcine oocytes
Original language description
Porcine oocytes have to be fertilized shortly after the completion of meiotic maturation. If fertilization does not occure, the oocytes undergo a number of complex undesirable changes called aging. Aging can lead to parthenogenetic activation or apoptosis. Carbon monoxide prodeces by heme oxygenase (HO) has potential to delay aging of porcine oocyte. We found that the inhibition of HO by Zn protoporphyrin IX leads to an increase in the number of apoptic oocytes and decrease in the number of intact oocytes in aging oocytes. Contrarily, the presence of a CO donor CORM-2 significantly decreases the number of apoptic oocytes while increasing the number of intact oocytes.
