Changes in society bring changes in forest management, too. Environmental services are for many countries the main target today. A review of development of management and Silvicultural systems used in Central European forests cover the historical aspectsfrom Middle Ages till now. The Czech Forest Act recognizes four basic reproduction cuttings: (i) shelterwood system, (ii) border cutting system, (iii) clear cuttings and (iv) selection system. The principles as well as advantages and main characteristics of each systems in terms of environmental services are given
