Polythienobenzothiophenes, a new family of electroactive polymers: electrosynthesis, spectral characterization and modelling

  • Original language description

New conducting polymers, induding poly[thieno[3,2-h][I]benzothiophene] (poly-TBT) and poty [6-methoxythienop,2-b][1]benzothiophene] (poly-MeOTBT) were electrosynthesized by anodic oxidation or the corresponding monomers in 0.1 M LiCIO4 acetonitrile solution. Poly-TBT and poly-MeOTBT electroactive films were rormed on platinum electrodes and characterized spectroscopicaIly. FT-IR studies show lhal both polymers present couplings occurring on the thiophene moiety and the phenyl ring, with a step-like structure. MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry indicates lhal poly-TBT and poly-MeOTBT films are mainly constituted or short-chain oligomers. The results or molecular orbita! (MO) calculations perrormed on the basis or a radicalcation electropolymerization mechanismare in good agreement with our spectral data.
