Zinnwaldite wastes after mining Sn-W ores ? a promising source of rubidium

  • Original language description

The zinnwaldite wastes originating from dressing Sn-W ores mined in Cinovec, Czech Republic were examined in respect to extract rubidium. Zinnwaldite wastes containing 0.20-0.30% Li and 0.10-0.20% Rb were subjected to magnetic and grain size separationsin which zinnwaldite concentrate with 1.36% Li and 0.94% Rb was obtained. Two ways of concentrate processing were studied: gypsum and limestone method. Limestone method enabled to recover 92% Rb from the waste whilst gypsum method provided only 25% extraction of Rb. Obtained solution, from which Li was separated using precipitation or solvent extraction methods represents a promising raw material for separation of rubidium compounds, namely of RbAl(SO4)2.
