Synthesis of Amminetrichloroplatinate(II) Ion
Original language description
Platinum complexes are commonly used as homogeneous catalysts or as precursors of supported metal catalysts and a very important group of platinum complexes are also used as precursors to fine chemicals. Potassium aminetrichloridoplatinate(II), KPt[(NH3)Cl3], is one such compound and it is a valuable precursor to many biologically active platinum complexes that are used as drugs with cytostatic activity, e.g. Picoplatin, LA-12 and Cycloplatam K[Pt(NH3)Cl3] is mainly prepared from cis-diamminedichloridoplatinate(II), cis Pt(NH3)2Cl2 that has itself been used as an anticancer drug, cisplatin, since 1978. The disadvantages of such a synthesis of K[Pt(NH3)Cl3] are the aforementioned biological activity of cis Pt(NH3)2Cl2 and very low yields of the key product. Alternative syntheses start from the less biologically active potassium tetrachloridoplatinate(II), K2PtCl4, but yields are lower than for the processes starting from cisplatin. The aim of this work was to find a new synthetic route
