Preparation of modified silica-based coatings with TCP-HA powders on titanium substrate by Sol-Gel method
Original language description
The purpose of this study was to obtain thin, bioactive, antibacterial silica coatings on titanium substrate by sol-gel method. The basic Si-sols (TEOS) with Ag nanoparticles were aged for 7 days at laboratory temperature and then synthetic hydroxyapatite (HA) and beta-tricalcium phosphate (TCP) powders were put in due to their bioactive properties. The addition of Ag nanoparticles was chosen for its antibacterial properties. Optical and electron microscopy were used for the surface observation after firing, tape and in vitro tests. The results after firing showed that the surface of samples was porous and fractionally cracked. In spite of the cracking, the tape test results confirmed that the adhesion of all the samples was excellent. In vitro test results in SBF confirmed the formation of new thin layer. The one hour antibacterial test results show that the sample with TCP powder show the best antibacterial properties.
