Porous biodegradable magnesium-based materials - preparation, microstructure and mechanical properties

  • Original language description

Due to their biocompatibility and mechanical properties, magnesium and its alloys appear to be suitable for production of biodegradable orthopaedic implants. Implementation of the porosity into these materials compromises mechanical properties of the implant more closely to them of natural bone, allows better flowing of body fluids to healing tissue and allows incorporation of new bone tissue into the implant. In this work, magnesium porous samples with porosity of 11, 25, 30, 44 and 51% were prepared by powder metallurgy technique and influence of porosity on mikrostructure and flexural strenght were studied.
