Preparation of cysteine adducts by regioselective ring-opening reactions of phenyloxirane
Original language description
Regio-selective ring opening reactions of the phenyloxirane ring by protected cysteine are described, which enabled synthesis of pure regio-isomeric cysteine adducts. The reaction catalysed by tris (pentafluorophenyl)borane afforded pure S-(2-hydroxy-1-phenylethyl)cysteine (alpha-adduct), whereas in the presence of tetrabutylammonium fluoride S-(2-hydroxy-2-phenylethyl)cysteine (beta-adduct) was formed predominantly. These products are needed for biological monitoring studies on the protein adducts formed from styrene.
