Original language description
The damage of objects due to the corrosion of the glass can take many forms, and one of them is crizzling; five stages were described. This term refers to a network of cracks in the object surface, accompanied by flaking of corroded glass - this leads to a loss of material and to the total disintegration of object. This phenomenon is described primarily in the connection with products manufactured in central Europe from the late 17th through 18th centuries, but also occurs at younger objects. To assess crizzling of glass, two groups of samples have been studied (mainly from Bohemian).
