MINERAL ADMIXTURES REACTIVITY DETERMINATION
Original language description
Sustainability and new greening measures bring new challenges to the construction industry within the EuropeanUnion. Reducing CO2 emissions is forcing the market to find new ways and use new materials as admixturesin cement or concrete. Lower quality clays could undoubtedly be such materials. Fly ashes from co-combustionof biomass are also beginning to appear on the market. They have different composition and propertiescompared to conventional fly ashes. In addition, it cannot be forgotten that there is the potential use of powerplant bottom ashes. In this work, the pozzolanic activity and reactivity of various types of mineral admixtures, both traditional and new ones, were compared. The reactivity of the admixtures was determined using theFrattini test and the electrical conductivity test. The 8-day Frattini test proved the pozzolanic activity of all rawmaterials except for one sample of fly ash from biomass. The shortened 1-day Frattini test showed a differentreactivity of the materials after one day of hydration in comparison to 8-day Frattini test. Nevertheless, thequantitative agreement between the results of the 1-day Frattini test and the electrical conductivity test was notclearly demonstrated. It was further confirmed that the pozzolanic activity of the supplied substances isdetermined by their grain size as well.
