Azathioprine (AZA) and 6-mercaptopurine (6-MP) are effective therapeutic agents in treatment of IBD. However, about 20#35 % of patients are unresponsive and about 15 % of patients develop intolerance to AZA/6-MP. 6-thioguanine (6-TG) is an alternativetherapy to AZA/6-MP in children with acute lymphoblastic leucaemia which gives rise to high 6-TG nucleotides levels # the most active metabolites of AZA/6-MP
