Incorporation of nucleic acids alters the morphology of In vitro assembled capsid-like particles formed from CA-NC of Mason-Pfizer monkey virus
Original language description
All retroviruses form a single structural precursor polyprotein Gag that directs the assembly of the immature retroviral capsid. Expression of Gag is sufficient for assembly of retrovirus-like particles in mammalian cells and in bacteria. Several studieshave shown that mere capsid protein can assemble in vitro into tubular structures or conical particvles resembling a mature core. Nucleocapsid protein facilitates Gag interactions and it is crucial for specific incorporation of genomic RNA and pimer tRNA.
