Preparation and characterization of lipid nanoparticles containing lipophilic actives

  • Original language description

The aim of this study was to prepare two types of colloidal systems, liposomes and lipid nanoparticles, containing commercially available ceramide VI. Ceramides are the main components of the stratum corneum, the physical and mechanical barrier of the skin. Ceramide supplementation is on approach to the treatment of a disrupted skin in diseases such as atopic dermatitis, ichthyosis, psoriasis and others. Different amounts of cermide VI were loaded into the colloidal nanoparticles. High performance thinlayer chromatography was used to confirm the amount of the incorporated ceramide VI. Size and zeta potential of the particles were determined by dynamic light scattering method. The particles were visualized by transmission electron microscopy. Our results suggest that colloidal nanoparticles are suitable drug delivery systems to incorporate ceramide VI. Both, liposomes and lipid nanoparticles, have shown a spherical shpae, an average size below the 100nm and a low polydispersity index.
