The flow control in continuous chromatography

  • Original language description

There is always a need to precisely distribute and control the flows in preparative chromatography, because it is the most important part of control in such kind of the process. In most cases the control is being made for one station as a black box withseveral inputs and outputs. We have made a small module, which can be connected up to the eight-columned station and corresponding number of pumps. It has its own controlling system consisting of controllers based on Siemens Simatic. It allows controlling any continuous process like SMB and VariCol. It consists of system of electromagnetic valves connected together with silicon tubes allowing distribution of flow in several directions. The functionality of distributor and primary control were tested with existing chromatographic unit KCHS-SMB-8-N containing sorbent Lewatit MDS 1368. The initial tests were performed with solutions of saccharides or carbohydrate and salts. The system for higher level control based on optimization and fuzz
