Investigation of phytocannabinoids transfer from raw material to aqueous infusions

  • Original language description

In the first phase of this study, different conditions were evaluated for the transfer of 17 phytocannabinoids from hemp 'tea' prepared from the Tisza cultivar into the aqueous phase. Variable factors were: steeping time, the ratio of dried hemp/water used for infusion preparation, and the method of infusion preparation; steeping in hot water (100 °C) versus boiling procedure. In the second phase of this study, five Czech commercial hemp 'tea' samples and their aqueous infusions were analyzed for their phytocannabinoids content using ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled with tandem high-resolution mass spectrometry (UHPLC-HRMS/MS). The hemp 'tea' samples were homogenized and weighted and an appropriate amount of ethanol was added. The suspension was shaken, filtered, and an aliquot was collected for analysis. A mixture of deuterated internal standards was added to the sample and quantification targeted phytocannabinoids were performed using an external matrix calibration. The aqueous samples were evaporated, dissolved in ethanol, and analyzed in the same way as the dry hemp 'tea' samples. Electrospray (ESI) operated in both positive and negative modes and was used for ionization. A quadrupole orbitrap was used as a mass analyzer.
