    The uptake of five pesticide residues (azoxystrobin, difenoconazole, fluazifop-P, pirimicarb, and tebuconazole) from contaminated carrots by Jamaican field crickets (Gryllus assimilis) and yellow mealworms (Tenebrio molitor) was investigated. Residues of fluazifop-P and tebuconazole were taken up by both species of insects. Long-term intake of carrots with incurred pesticide residues resulted in the formation of conjugated or bound residues in both insect species. Feeding insects on carrots with different levels of pesticide residues resulted in statistically significant differences in fluazifop-P residue levels in both insect species and tebuconazole residues in crickets. A significant decrease in residue concentration was observed after starvation of insects. The residue concentration of fluazifop-P in experimentally reared mealworms exceeded the maximum residue level set in European legislation. Due to the possible uptake of residues by insects, the quality and safety of the feed used for rearing insects should be an important area of food safety consideration.
