Principal Components Analysis in Biomedical Images
Original language description
Linear and non-linear methods of image de-noising form a fundamental tool in many problems related to engineering, environmental and biomedical systems. The paper presents the use of the two-dimensional finite impulse response (FIR) filters and the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) for signal decomposition and reconstruction using selected method of thresholding to suppress undesirable signal components. The fundamental part of the paper is devoted to the suggestion of image components enhancement by principal component analysis based upon the original image de-noised by selected methods. The proposed algorithm is discussed in the paper in connection with different types of noise and methods of its rejection. Applications studied in the paper include biomedical image processing and namely analysis of magnetic resonance images (MRI). Algorithms and methods suggested in the paper are presented in the Matlab environment allowing the Web server use for remote image analysis as well.
