Experience with mathematical software in basic course of chemical engineering at ICT Prague
Original language description
Computers are not often effectively used in undergraduate engineering science courses. The authors try to answer the basic question: Which of many possible ways of utilization of computers in basic courses of chemical engineering should be selected as the most effective one? The authors' opinions are formulated on the basis of their quadrennial experience in organizing computer-aided instruction seminaries. Special chemical engineering software is too complicated for using in basic courses therefore four mathematical software packages (MAPLE V, MATLAB, POLYMATH, and EES) were tested regarding the following basic criteria: availability, user friendliness, readability of programs and computing power. Generally, chemical engineering problems are disparateand a combination of various programs proves to be the best approach.
