    Local swell of a surface by liquid macro-vortex in a stirred vessel

  • Original language description

    This paper deals with an experimental assessment of the occurrence of the local swell of free liquid surface by the macro vortex in a mechanically stirred vessel. The experiments were carried out in a cylindrical plexiglass baffled vessel with inner diameter of 0.29 m with a flat bottom. An axial impeller with six pitched 45° blades was used for mixing. A conductivity rod probe monitored the surface deformations. For each experimental arrangement, the recording time of the instantaneous signals was about 40 min. The data rate was about 470 Hz. It was found that the mean frequency of the macro-vortex occurrence, apparent on free surface, increases linearly with the stirrer frequency. Duration of the local swell by macro-vortex was similar for all impeller speeds and off-bottom clearances.
