Original language description
This paper deals with an experimental investigation of the effect of flow macro-instability on free surface deformation in a stirred vessel equipped with an axial impeller. Conductivity probes monitored the surface deformation and a high-speed video camera was used for observation of macro-streams inside the vessel. It was found that there are local surface macro-swells next to a baffle resulting from liquid wall jets and macro-vortices. Maximal height of turbulent eddies and maximal height of macro-swells increased proportionally with a stirrer frequency for each impeller diameter and their dependence on off-bottom clearance is not significant.
