A comparative study of transport characteristics of different impeller types in gas-liquid dispersions
Original language description
Mechanically agitated aerated vessels with multiple impellers on a common shaft are widely used in chemical and biochemical processes based on a gas-liquid contact. For the design of the equipment it is necessary to provide required transport characteristics (i.e. gas hold-up, mixing intensity and volumetric mass transfer coefficient) at as low energy consumption as possible. Transport characteristics depend on physical properties of the dispersion and on the equipment geometry. For instance, the choiceof the impeller type is very important. Gas hold-up, mixing intensity, volumetric mass transfer coefficient and power consumption are measured in a vessel of inner diameter 0.29m equipped with three impellers on a common shaft. Two types of impellers areused: Narcissus and six 45° pitched blade impeller pumping up. 0.5M solution of Na2SO4, which represents the non-coalescent batch, is used as liquid phase and oxygen as gas phase. The dependencies of the volumetric mass transfer coeffici
