Enzyme hydrolysis of soyabean oil in 3-phase slug flow microreactors
Original language description
In this study, we deal with a microcapillary/microchannel 3-phase enzyme reaction system that uses a slug/segmented flow to increase the reaction surface. The microdevices are fabricated from polydimethyl siloxane (PDMS) or polymethyl methacrylate PMMA by a combination of microfabrication techniques - UV photolithography, micromachining, hot assembling, casting and UV/O3 treatment. The water-oil emulsion was generated in a plexiglass microchip with an X-cross microchannel arrangement. Both the oil and water were pumped into the microchip by a precise syringe pumps. In this contribution, we present fabrication of microfluidic systems in which segmented flow will be used for hydrolysis of the vegetable oil, experimental arrangement for continual hydrolysis of vegetable oil. and characterization of segmented flow with comparison batch reaction and reaction in slug flow. Enzyme lipase, which will be used for hydrolysis, is dissolved in water phase.
