Comparison between enzyme hydrolysis in hydrophobic and hydrophilic slug flow microreactor
Original language description
In this study, we deal with a microcapillary/microchannel two-phase and three-phase reaction systems that use a slug/segmented flow to increase the reaction surface and provide more intensive mixing. The microdevices are fabricated from polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) or polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) by a combination of microfabrication techniques - UV photolithography, micromachining, hot assembling, casting. The water-oil emulsion was generated in PMMA microchip with an T-cross microchannel arrangement. Both the oil and water were pumped into the microchip by a precise syringe pumps. In this contribution, we present fabrication of hydrophobic and hydrophilic microfluidic systems in which segmented flow will be used for hydrolysis of the vegetable oil. Enzyme lipase, which will be used for hydrolysis, is dissolved in water phase.
