MATHEMATICAL MODEL OF SIGNAL PROPAGATION IN EPITHELIA
Original language description
Mathematical model of signal transmission in epithelial tissue mediated by transmembrane epidermal growth factor receptor has been developed. The signal transmission is mediated by receptors from EGFR family and their ligands. These ligands can be transported by combination of convection and diffusion. Our model takes into account the influence of convection of extracellular medium. Here, we focus on single-layer of epithelial tissue. The developed model was analyzed using asymptotic and numerical methods. We observed nonmonotonous dependence of the propagation velocity on the ligand receptor binding constant under influence of the convective transport. If the signal propagates downstream, the region of high velocities become much broader and spreads over several orders of magnitude of the binding constant. When the convective transport is oriented against the propagating signal, either the velocity of the traveling front wave is slowed down or the traveling front wave can stop or reve
