Original language description
The interleaflet transport of phospholipids is a crucial physiological process in the cell plasma membrane. This process can be facilitated by specific proteins—scramblases—without ATP consumption. We designed experiments, testing lipid scrambling activity of the Sec61/TRAP translocon, a protein complex previously known for facilitating the membrane translocation of nascent polypeptide chains. To investigate such an activity, we employed experiments based on NBD fluorescence quenching. Employment of these experiments requires reconstitution of Sec61/TRAP in large unilamellar vesicles. Here are provided data, controlling the polydispersity index (PDI) and distribution of hydrodynamic diameter of the LUVs before and after the reconstitution procedure, determined by Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS).
