Synthesis of 9-phosphonoalkyl and 9-phosphonoalkoxyalkyl purines: Evaluation of their ability to act as inhibitors of Plasmodium falciparum, Plasmodium vivax and human hypoxanthine-guanine-(xanthine) phosphoribosyltransferases
Original language description
Hypoxanthine-guanine-(xanthine) phosphoribosyltransferase catalyses the synthesis of the purine nucleoside monophosphates essential for DNA/RNA production in protozoan parasites. Acyclic nucleoside phosphonates have been found to inhibit Plasmodium falciparum. The study describes, how is the length of the aliphatic phosphonate linker depend on the enzymatic activity.
