Isoquercetin enzymatic production: A true story Response to the paper 'Zhua et al. [1]'
Original language description
In this Letter to Editor, we correct and comment on the misleading information in the paper: the Dan Zhua, An Gong, Yan Xu, D'assise Kinfack Tsabing, Fuan Wu, Jun Wang: Isoquercitrin production from rutin catalyzed by naringinase under ultrasound irradiation.nJournal of Molecular Catalysis B: Enzymatic 134 (2016) 186-195' that describes the production of isoquercitrin (IQ, quercetin-3-β-D-glucopyranoside) from rutin (quercetin-3-β-D-glucopyranosyl-α-(1→6)-L-rhamnopyranoside) using enzymatic complex naringinase under ultrasound irradiation. Authors neglected presence of glucosidase in the naringinase preparation that results in the production of the mixture of IQ and quercetin and they failed to demonstrate the absence of quercetin e.g. by a co-injection of standard compounds, e.g. rutin, IQ and quercetin, but this has not been done. Therefore, authors could not conclude that they produced isoquercitrin, which makes the whole study invalid. Thorough analysis of this paper revealed ethical issues: the sum of indicators is sufficiently high to assume that the data were deliberately misappropriated to get the manuscript published despite ample publications on this subject with much superior results.n
