Representation of the magnetorheological fluid by bilinear material model focusing on damping devices for rotordynamic applications
Original language description
Unbalance of the rotating parts is the principal source of lateral vibrations of rotors and excitation of time varying forces transmitted between the rotor and its casing. To reduce lateral oscillations the damping devices are placed between the rotor and its frame. This is offered by magnetorheological squeeze film dampers. The experience obtained from a number of carried out simulations show that on certain conditions application of these models arrives at computational difficulties such as loss of stability or convergence of the solution during solving the equations of motion including the cases when determination of the pressure distribution indicates no problems. There are evidences that the reason is the noncontinuous flow curve of the Bingham material. To avoid these problems a new mathematical model of the damping element has been proposed. It is based on the assumptions of the classical theory of lubrication but the magnetorheological oil is represented by bilinear material. F
