Shape evolution in heavy sulfur isotopes and erosion of the N = 28 shell closure.
Original language description
The structure of neutron-rich .sup.40,42,44./sup.S nuclei has been investigated through in-beam .tau.-ray spectroscopy using the fragmentation reaction of a 60 MeV A .sup.48./sup.Ca beam on a thin Be target. E.sub..tau../sub., I.sub..tau../sub., .tau..tau.-coincidence, and .tau.-ray angular distributions were measured for each produced fragment. The level schemes previously containing only a single .tau. trantition were extended, and, and spin values were proposed for the new states. Theexpetimental results were interpreted by use of microscpic collective-model and large-scale shell-model calculations.
