NOR and nitroxide-based HAS in accelerated photooxidation of carbon-chain polymers; comparison with secondary HAS: an ESRI and ATR FTIR study
Original language description
Modern physical techniques were adopted for studies of spatial distribution of intermediates and products of photodegradation of four commodity polymers (polypropylene, polyethylene, polystyrene and poly(ethylene-co-norbornene)) stabilized with hinderedamine stabilizer (HAS). HAS stabilization activity in polymers subjected to photooxidation is indicated by appearance of nitroxides. Concentration profiles of nitroxides inside polymer plaques subjected to accelerated weathering as a function of the weathering exposure time were determined by electron spin resonance imaging (ESRI). Stabilization activity of three alkoxyamine derivatives of HAS (TinuvinNOR 123, TinuvinNOR 371, FlamestabNOR 116), Chimasorb119 structurally similar to FlamestabNOR 116, andnitroxide-based HAS Dastib1045 was studied and compared with the secondary HAS Tinuvin770. ESRI data were complemented by ATR FTIR detection of oxidation products and by diffusive optical transmittance of the polymer plaques.
