Trends and Strategies in ICT Application in Higher Education versus Evaluation of Teaching and Learning
Original language description
In higher education and learning, we can identify trends in the application of information andcommunication technology (ICT), which result from technical innovations, educationalknowledge and requirements for the effectiveness of the process and quality of its output.Educational systems or individual higher educational institutions (HEI) respond to therecognised trends by formulating digital strategies, aiming to adapt to these trends. At thesame time, processes for the quality assurance of teaching and learning are implementedthrough student evaluation of teaching (SET) or more recently student rating of teaching (SRT)in higher education institutions. The evaluation tool is usually the result of teachers andstudents? beliefs of teaching, which change with time and with particular circumstances ineducation institutions. The article works on the assumption that trends in the application of ICTin higher education, or more precisely individual strategic goals are not transformed intocurrently used tools for student rating of teaching. The analysis of evaluation tools in selecteduniversities confirmed the given assumption. Therefore, it is not possible to reliably verifywhether and to what extent or with what reaction from students the innovative pedagogiesthat use ICT and respect identified trends are applied in the higher education teaching. Toeliminate this discrepancy between potential possibilities of ICT in higher education and theabsence of examination of this phenomenon, other tools for SET/SRT are suggested.
