Radioprotective properties and toxicity tests of C60 fullerene derivatives in vivo & in vitro
Original language description
Applicability of fullerenes and their derivates as substances increasing the resilience against ionizing radiation was investigated in vivo with the juvenile individuals Danio rerio without sex selection and in vitro using the primo-culture of guinea-pigkidneys and melanoma cells B16-F10, together with toxicity tests. To obtain the bio-availability of nanoparticles, the soluble fullerene C60 was prepared by oxidation with peracetic acid followed by hydrolysis of formed oxo-fullerene. The solution of 147 mg/l of prepared fullerene derivate, does not exhibit toxicity for Danio rerio in long-lasting experiments. After five-day exposure to this solution, the radio-protective effects were found; the survival times after irradiation by 10-70 Gy doses prolong till 70% and LD50 approximetly double. In the contrary to fishes, cell cultures in vitro are more vulnerable to prepared fullerene derivates and solutions of units or tents of mg/l are toxic for the primo-culture kidneys and melanoma ce
