Biodegradation of oil sludge using bacterial organisms

  • Original language description

The article deals with biological degradation of oil sludge located in Lužice, South Moravia, Czech Republic. Bacteria strains Pseudomonas putida, Rhodococcus sp. and mixed culture of these strains were used in the biodegradation process. The experimentlasted for 35 days at 25 C. Changing values of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and C10 ? C40 hydrocarbons detected in liquid mixture of petroleum sludge and bacteria medium were observed. The results show that biodegradation of these organic contaminants originated from oil sludge was successful. The highest degradation efficiency was approximately 76 % (PAHs), 73 % (PCBs) and 78 % (C10 ? C40) using mixed culture.
