Mineralogical and geochemical study of mine waste weathering products

  • Original language description

This thesis focusses primarily on a detailed mineralogical and geochemical research of secondary mineral phases that were created in the process of sulphide oxidation in the environment of mine wastes at the abandoned Sb Dúbrava deposit. In the crystal structure of secondary products of sulphide oxidation are often bonded considerable concentrations of toxic elements (e.g. As, Sb, Pb, Cd), this is an important fact in terms of their negative impact on human health. Products of sulphide oxidation are presented in researched environments in the form of Fe RIGHTWARDS ARROW Sb oxides, hydroxides and oxyhydroxides of variable chemical composition. Many of these secondary oxygenous phases are very unstable and easily soluble in acidic and alkaline conditions, due to which the toxic elements bonded on their surface and in their structures can be released into the surrounding environment. On the other hand, some secondary mineral phases, which often contain Sb and As, are insoluble and stable
