Field Application for EPR Tecnique to Study Interganular Corrosion Sensbility.

  • Original language description

Double loop electrochemical potentiokinetic reactivation (DL-EPR) method for measuring of the sensitization of materials can be used "in situ". DL-EPR has been applied as a quantitative method for non?destructive measuring of the degree of sensitizationin weld affected zones of stainless steels and/or related alloys (304L, 904L, 444, Alloy 800) with a miniaturized electrochemical field cell using a gel electrolyte containing sulphuric acid and potassium thiocyanate. The results are compared with standard electrochemical tests with a liquid electrolyte employed for the mentioned materials. A good correlation between reactivation ratios (Jr/Jp) and the distances from the weld axes were obtained for gel and liquid electrolyte. The DL-EPR method results were also compared with the immersion tests of tested materials in standard boiling solutions. The metallography inspection was focused on intergranular depth penetration in relation with the reactivation ratios.
