Oscillation Frequency of Bubbles Moving Periodically in Various Liquids
Original language description
Experimental study of bubble motion in downward liquid flow is provided in the contribution. We concentrate on medium sized bubbles (de = 5 ? 9 mm) in various liquids. The bubbles have rising velocities of 0.15?0.25 m s-1. Therefore, bubbles can be observed only limited time in stagnant liquids. To overcome this limitation, a counterflow experimental apparatus is employed. Under such circumstances, bubble levitates in the counterflow and its motion is recorded by a high speed camera. Two perpendicular projections of the measuring section are obtained by means of a mirror. Continous phases are water, glycerol solution (67 wt.%), and polyacrylamide solution (0,25 wt.%). Dispersed phase is air. Corresponding Eötvös number (describing bubble deformation) falls in the range of 3 to 11. Flow regime is characterised by Reynolds numbers of 60 to 1700. Trajectory of the ellipsoidal bubbles is not linear, but someway wavy. This unsteady bubble motion is accompanied by bubble wobbling. Frequency
