Annealing of Low Alloy Steels in the Endothermic Atmospheres
Original language description
The presented paper is devoted to the surface changes in low alloy steels, especially to the possible decarburising or carburising, during their soft annealing in the furnaces operating with the controlled endothermic atmospheres. Two low alloy steels were used for the experimental study. The first of them was low alloy ? 1 % Cr and 0.2 % Mo ? steel with the carbon content of 0.4 %. The second one was hypereutectoid low alloy steel containing 1.5 % Cr and 1.0 % of carbon. Studied steels were soft annealed in the box-type furnaces operating with the controlled endothermic atmosphere. The atmosphere contained mainly carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, methane, hydrogen, water vapour and nitrogen. The carbon potential of the atmosphere was controlled continuously by the carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide ratio. The steels were annealed in atmospheres, the carbon potential of which corresponded to the steel carbon content, but they were also annealed in atmospheres with different ? ?incorrect
