In this paper a new formula for economic potential based on the transportation costs and total outputs of the new regions NUTS3 in the Czech Republic is proposed. The new concept is compared with the concept known from the literature. Using the real datathe influence of the new motorway D47 from Lipnik to Ostrava is investigated. The results show that the new motorway will have a significant influence on the economic development of the Moravia-Silesia region
