Project Management Skills: Hard Versus Soft. Is It Enough? Technical Tools That Really Work
Original language description
A project may be well-conceived and adequately financed, the resources may be specialists, and consultants may be highly experienced. Still, suppose the efforts of all the participants are not skillfully coordinated and managed. In that case, the project may overrun the budget, fail to meet the schedule, or fall short in functional and technical quality. The larger and more complex the project, the more critical this overall management function becomes. In general, project managers have no formal authority, though they are held responsible for the project's overall success. They are responsible for managing all stakeholder groups' interaction, each with its expectations and project success criteria. The project manager is often well served by putting their egos aside and keeping a necessary emotional distance from their work. Summarized, the position of project manager demands a comprehensive defined skill set and personality profile. The paper aims to briefly introduce the project manager's skills and specifically focus on the successful technical tools necessary for his work in today's digital age.
