Karl von Lichtenstein-Castelcorno and the Import of Luxury Goods within the Context of the Life of an Ecclesiastical Aristocrat
Original language description
The analysis of the extraordinarily extensive correspondence of Bishop Karl von Lichtenstein-Castelcorno with his agents and merchants, who worked in different European courts, revealed much valuable information to the bishop's standard of living. The archival documents made it possible to learn how the bishop was eating, what items he had imported from Rome, Venice, Bologna and other European capitals. The study provides a varied insight into a number of branches of the bishop's life, from clothing, food, toiletries or the acquisition of furniture, music, fauna and flora. Last but not least, the study deals with the way of transporting luxury goods and the bishop's strategy of obtaining these items.
