Lettuce (Lactuca sativa) is the most important crop in the group of leafy vegetables. The crop comprises seven main groups of cultivars (including oilseed lettuce) differing phenotypically; they are usually described as morphotypes. The accurate description of lettuce germplasm provides basic information useful for lettuce breeders. This list consists of 55 descriptors with 15 elucidated by figures. It provides a tool for detailed characterization of and discrimination within the intraspecific variationof L. sativa, verification of old varieties, and identification of putative duplicates and gaps in germplasm collections.

Czech description
Salát (Lactuca sativa) je nejvýznamnější listovou zeleninou.. Zahrnuje hlavních morfologicky odlišných skupin, nazývaných morfotypy. Přesný popis genových zdrojů je základní informací pro šlechtitele. Předložený soubor zahrnuje 55 deskriptorů, z nichž 15je doplněno obrázky. Je nástrojem pro detailní charakterizaci a určení vnitrodruhové variability L. sativa, verifikaci starých odrůd a identifikaci možných duplicitních či chybějíchc položek v genofondových kolekcích.
