    The aim of the paper is to discuss the changing school environment. The main problem is the digitalized communication and networking in education. It copies the way of learning of the generation WHY. Key trends in teaching and learning will be pointed out and the problem concerning the education standards will be mentioned. The 21st century school and teachers have to change teaching methods and start to take advantage of ICT technologies. The new approach must be realized at universities, in the pre - service teacher education, too. Examples of the iinovation in undergraduate physics teacher education at the Faculty of Science in Olomouc are presented.
