Deficiencies in understanding of word exercises in mathematics occurs in some pupils attending a logopaedic primary school, e.g. school children with specific language impairment, pupils with specific lexicological and orthographical learning difficulties, and pupils from a bilingual family environment with native language other than Czech. Understanding the word exercise assignment in mathematics is essential for selecting the relevant calculation procedure and for successful problem solving.
