Measurement of Attitudes Using Semantic Differential and Possible Difficulties during its Application in Difrerent Sociocultural Environment
Original language description
The article describes possible approaches to measuring the attitudes when using the semantic differential. It shows in which way the classic Osggod's three-factor semantic differential and ATER two-factor semantic differential work. Based on the comparative research performed in the Czech Republic and Poland with application of the standardised ATER two-dimensional semantic differential, it is pointed out that mere translation of the semantic differential scales does not always have to bring relevant results. Its application in other sociocultural conditions, specifically Polish undergraduates, does not have to reflect reality objectively without prior verification using a factor analysis. The semantic differential is a suitable method for measuring the attitudes, however, it is necessary to perform its checking factor analysis prior to every application in a different target group than that for which this instrument was determined and standardised. In our research we used the already
